Jennifer Brody Writer

Book Coaching

I’m an award-winning author and creative writing instructor at the Writing Pad in LA. My books have sold translation rights in Russia (just published!) and China. They’re also being packaged into a feature film with Zero Gravity producing. My students have landed agents, sold manuscripts to major publishers, and been accepted to prestigious MFA and workshop programs like Tin House. I work with both fiction and nonfiction manuscripts of all genres and categories, but my *specialties* include science fiction, fantasy, horror, and young adult. I’m also a former Hollywood executive and film producer, so if you’ve got a screenplay in the works, I can help you with it. I’m excited to work on your pages!

Feel free to contact me directly with any questions.

Student Testimonials

“Jen is a truly wonderful book coach. She is incredibly insightful, and she has always given me constructive feedback that leaves me feeling empowered. Her encouragement in my project has allowed me to sift through the bad elements of my manuscript and pull out the things that are actually working. On top of all this, she continually encourages me to create practical writing goals, and she is always willing to answer my questions about the writing business itself. I couldn’t have found a kinder and more inspirational mentor. I can’t recommend her enough.”
—Rachel Goodman
“The second Jennifer Brody broke down the fundamental differences between Star Trek and Star Wars, I knew I was in good hands. She has an in-depth knowledge of the fantasy and sci-fi genres that I can only hope to attain some day. At the same time, she has always kept me focused on the fundamentals of fiction, namely having a character-driven story and finding your voice as a writer. Learning how to be a better writer under her tutelage has been a blast! I’ve made a lot of progress in my novel and made some great friends in her classes.”
—Leonardo Kroster
“One of my favorite things about book coaching with Jennifer is the amazing positive environment that she cultivates. You feel safe to share even your toughest work with her, and she gives you excellent tailored feedback and suggestions of comparative work that you should read that might help you stylistically. She’s great with structure, voice, dialogue, and sensory detail coaching that appeal to all five senses. But most of all, something that is extremely hard to come by, is the confidence she builds in you to give yourself permission to call yourself a writer. I cannot rave about Jennifer Brody more.”
—Michelle Grondine
“Not only is Jennifer Brody an extremely talented, knowledge, intelligent, and creative mind, but she is also a wonderful support system and cultivator of talent. You may go in a diamond in the rough, but you will come out a little more polished. How polished will depend on how much work you put in yourself in your own time working on revisions from Jennifer’s impeccable constructive criticisms. Out of all the workshop instructors I have worked with, I can honestly say Jennifer is the instructor who has most positively impacted my work and writing thus far. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with her and will continue to do so on all my writing projects! You will not regret getting coached by the Award-Winning writer that is Jennifer Brody!”
