After studying film at Harvard, she interned for the producers of Donnie Darko, then moved to Los Angeles after graduation. She began her career in Hollywood working for A-list directors and movie studios on films including The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Inkheart, The Golden Compass, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. She is a film and television producer, a screenwriter, and a creative writing instructor.

With the tagline “The dreams that you FEAR will come true,” the Disney Chills series — written as Vera Strange — features iconic Disney villains haunting kids. It debuted to strong press and found an audience with children, reluctant readers, and Disney fans. The series now spans seven books.

Forbes called her “a star in the graphic novel world” for Spectre Deep 6 and 200, created with Eisner- and Ringo-winning artist Jules Rivera. For Lucasfilm, she wrote an original canon Darth Vader story in Star Wars: Stories of Jedi and Sith.

Her books have been translated around the world, including France, the UK, Russia, Italy, Poland, China, Brazil, Mexico, Korea, and Japan, and are available as audiobooks. Many of her stories have been optioned and packaged for film and television.
